Activity for toddlers- Big and Small
Mothers always remember unconditional love and acceptance are the most important building stones for developing a baby's brain (at any age).
Sit with your child in a comfortable position, mostly on a clean mat placed on the floor. So little chance of child falling off the bed/sofa. Have little or no disturbance when you carry out these activities with your baby. The room where you sit with the child must be neat and organised and have little or no noise and other distraction.
I remember from my preschool teaching days, doing the same thing. We were instructed and we followed too, to take out one material out in the room to be presented to children. To get their maximum attention.
How to teach Big and Small to toddlers:-
π»Take two plastic building blocks, one big and one small.
π»Talk to the baby about the difference in size,
'This is the big block and this is the small block.
π»Take the small block- it fits easily in your hand. Take the large block- your hand can only hold it.
π»Put the block down on the mat, point at it and say: "This is the big block. This is the small block".
π»Take the child's hand and let him touch the blocks and repeat: "This is the big block. This is the small block".
π»Now ask the child: "Give me the big block". Praise the child if he succeeds- clap hands and hi-If.
π»Do the same with the small block. Repeat the activity few more times, with little variations such as, 'Put the small block onto the big block,' or, throw me the small block.
And voila ! Your child knows how to distinguish between big and small. And also you have fed his vocabulary with many new words, such as:
-Big
-Small
-Block
-Give
-Throw
This activity I learnt when I use to teach in a preschool. And the toddlers learn it very quickly.
Let me know if you want to know about such activities or rather wait for my upcoming blogs for more toddler activities.
